"There is nothing as mysterious as a fact clearly described." - Garry Winogrand

As an immigrant, I feel that the threads of family, language, and culture will always, in some way, connect me to land I left behind. But in the time away and miles apart, what I believed about the country where I was born is hard to reconcile with what actually exists. This incongruity allows me to romanticize; here, I can remember that life as being remarkable, extraordinary, and even charmed.

Two Rivers was photographed in the Dominican Republic, in the towns and countryside between Higuey and Boca De Yuma, on the eastern side of the island. This series describes the life and family I left behind. It shows what distance has for me transformed.
